In order to further implement the “practicable, innovative, international” talents cultivation objective of Jianghan University (JHUN), enhance international exchange and cooperation, improve the level of the internationalization of JHUN and expand international horizon of students, At the invitation of Daegu government of Korea, Stanford University, California State University, Long Beach, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, the University of Lincoln, Imperial College London, Athlone Institute of Technology, Florence National Academy of Finearts of Italy, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, the University of Hong Kong and other world-famous(fraternal) universities and governments, more than 160 teachers and students were sent to the above fraternal universities and governments by JHUN for short-term exchange and study and they completed the study tasks successfully.
There were 11 groups in the 2017 JHUN Students’ Overseas Short-Term Exchange Program. Only the 2017 JHUN “Hubei College Students’ Overseas Study Tour Program” group set off between the end of September and the end of October and the rest 10 groups set off during the summer vacation. The projects were Korean Daegu International Students' Day, the IETC Innovation Training Camp Program in the United States, the Leadership Enhancement Program in California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in The United States, the Micro Summer School Program in the University of Lincoln in England, the Visiting Plan to Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland, the Art Tour to Italy, France And Spain, the Higher Education Student Visiting Program in Malaysia, the Stanford West Coast Innovation Program of Jianghan University, the Imperial College “Global Challenge” Visiting Program in London and the Visiting and Practice Program in the University of Hong Kong respectively.
Peng Sijing from the School of Physical Education who participated in the 2017 Korean Daegu International Students' Day said “Travelling is a better way to experience life than reading. The trip to Korea really broadens my horizon so that I’ve got new pursuits for my future. No matter how far I go, I never forget my original will. I find my own shortcomings in verbal communication, and I’m more determined to learn different languages and cultures and visit more places. Life is long and there is no end for learning. I will never forget my original will and work hard to pursue better development.”
Ge Manlu from the School of Design who participated in the 2017 Visiting Plan to Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland said "I’m a freshman. It’s amazing to get the opportunity to visit Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland with the teachers and students! We have not only experienced the ancient engraving technology, but also enjoyed the green scenery and customs of Ireland which broaden our horizon. These will become the motivation for us to make efforts.”
Weng Xiaoqing from the School of Fine Arts who participated in the 2017 Art Tour to Italy, France And Spain during Summer Vacation said “I think the study tour is very fruitful. It broadens my horizon and mind. What I’ve learnt in those days have positive influence not only on my study or daily life but also on many other aspects in the future. Meanwhile, it makes me see the wider world outside and I begin to realize my present limitations and shortcomings. I will continuously improve myself in the future study and life.”
Song Xinyi of the School of Music who participated in the 2017 Higher Education Student Visiting Program in Malaysia said “This trip is a meaningful experience in my life and I’ve experienced local cultural customs and local expertise. What’s more, I met a lot of friends and I’m getting along with them better, which lays the foundation for my future study and life. I would like to thank all the teachers, leaders, classmates and friends from Malaysia. I will never forget the time with you.”
Chen Zerui from the School of Business who participated in the 2017 Leadership Enhancement Program in California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in the United States said “Different cultures result in different customs. All we need to do is to think globally and absorb essence of foreign cultures based on Chinese culture so that we will be able to see things in an internationalized vision and treat gaps and problems in a more comprehensive way while improving ourselves.”
Mao Yuchong of the School of Humanities who participated in the 2017 Micro Summer School Program in the University of Lincoln summarized that “On the whole, my summer trip to the UK has been a huge gain, especially in terms of study. My experienced is enriched, which will be of great benefit to my study in the future. Moreover, as the team leader of JHUN team, I get practiced by making an English speech at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the program in the University of Lincoln. Thanks to the program, I’ve got the opportunity to learn things that are lifelong beneficial.”
