On March 4th, more than 30 volunteers ofLei Feng Spirit Institute of Jianghan Universitywent to Xiang Yang nursing home of Wuhan. They were grateful for the trip to the nursing home with the approaching of “Lei Feng Memorial Day on March 5”.
At 9am, when the volunteers arrived at the nursing home, they were immediately integrated into the old man, anddeserted nursing home was full of happiness and laughter. Volunteers were engaged in massaging, cleaning and making dumplings for the old people.
There were 8 international students in this trip. They were in a foreign land and the feelings of missing their families were always in their heart. This trip to the nursing home became a sustenance for theirlongings. The president and other members of Lei Feng Spiritual Research Institute of Jianghan University invited them to be the foreign volunteers of the instituteand gave them the uniforms and badges assouvenirs.
Even though they have difficulties in the language, they still try the best to chat with the old people and made them happy and feed them patiently with weak Chinese and simple translation. Companion is a performance of love; Even if they had never made dumplings, but they learned every step very carefully, and madea delicious lunch for the elderly. Although the dumplings are not so perfect, it’s full of love of the volunteers. Concentration is also a sign of love. Even if they didn't have enough time, they still prepared the show for the elderly: the funny dance, the high-pitched song, the music of the home country -- The heart is an expression of love.
"We gather together here today is to commemorate Lei Feng, old people are worthy of respect, we are very honored to help them and we believe that every one of the elderly is respectable, this is the reason why we are here, we also believe that the action is more important than shouting slogans, finally we hope that we can see the smile on your face, thank you!" Before leaving, international students said these Chinese words which are not standard enough but heartfelt and simple enough to express the gratitude and love. Old people are deeply moved by their selfless dedication!
This visit not only enriched the students' extracurricular life, but also brought spiritual comfort to the old people. What’s more, this event made international students who are in foreign land get anemotional sustenance and expressed the gratitude feelings, and they experienced the Lei Feng spirit of selfless dedication and the selfless will be spread out of China and carried forward to all over the world!
