On the afternoon of Dec. 18th, 2016,Chinese and foreign teachers and students attended “Colorful Wind Festival” held in 3F, Shixiangyuan, Jianghan University (JHUN). The “Colorful Wind Chinese Dumpling Festival” was sponsored by the School of International Education and organized by Colorful Wind International Student Union of School of International Education.
At 3:00p.m., Chinese and foreign teachers and students gathered in Shixiangyuan Canteen of the South Zone for enjoying the pleasure of making Chinese dumplings. It was the first time for international students to make Chinese dumplings; they were full of keen interest in Chinese dumpling, a traditional Chinese food. With careful guidance and assistance of Chinese students, they succeeded in making Chinese dumplings in the cheers and warm atmosphere. While boiling Chinese dumplings, Chinese and foreign students made Chinese knots and play games to win prizes etc. In the end, Chinese and foreign teachers and students tasted dumplings with their labors and rave about the dumplings.
Through the “Colorful Wind Chinese Dumpling Festival”, international students expressed that they were looking forward to various Chinese cultural activities in the next year. In addition, the “Colorful Wind Chinese Dumpling Festival” made international students enjoyed warmth in China in the winter, experienced Chinese dietary culture, built relationship with Chinese students, and loved the place where they live and study more.
It’s reported that the Winter Solstice falls on Dec. 21st, 2016. The Winter Solstice is one of the 24 solar terms of China and one of the 8 astronomical phenomena solar terms. It’s a custom to eat Chinese dumplings in Northern China; as the saying goes, “eating dumplings during winter solstice”.
