On March 5, a volunteer service program of “Learning After Lei Feng Volunteer Service”, also called the program of “Assisting the Management of River and Lake Chiefs, Co-building a Pretty Wuhan City”, was hosted by the Hubei Provincial Communist League, Wuhan Civic Enhancement Committee Office of Wuhan, Wuhan Communist League, Wuhan Water Affaris Bureau, and Wuhan Economic Development Zone Administration (Han’nan District). This program, which took place in the Mayinghe River Bingshui Park (请对方核对park名称),marks the first establishment of “Youth Protection of Waters Station” in Mayinghe River, Han’nan District. Vice Secretary Wang Yange, of Hubei Provincial Communist League, Vice Chairman Gan Xiaoming, of Wuhan Municipal Political Consultative Conference, and other relevant representatives in charge, together with the Vice Chancellor of Jianghan University, Zhang Ying, took part in the program.
Vice Chairman Gan Xiaoming, during his opening ceremony speech, mentioned his hope that the all the young volunteers of Wuhan city participate in activities of protecting the waters, and be responsible activists of lake and rive protection. With these volunteers acting as “propagandists” and “invigilators” of such protection, the whole society could formulate a better consciousness on caring, supporting, participating, and guarding on waters protection.
After the opening ceremony, a volunteer service of surveying the river for environmentalprotection is initiated. The volunteer service team on water cleaning, led by the Jianghan University Communist League and professional teachers, carried out an on-spot survey of the water quality. The School of International Education organized 10 international students to participate in this program, and fulfill the promise and slogan of “volunteer service across national boundaries, and public interest for all warm-heartedness”.
During the activities that day, young volunteers also held a dialogue with Vice Chairman Gan Xiaoming, and they used their professional knowledge to answer concerning questions in satisfactory manner, which is best acknowledged by the Vice Chairman. The Vice Chairman Gan also wished that they could report the survey result to relevant government agencies and provide sound evidence support for later environmental protection on Mayinghe River.
Our University, together with the enthusiasm initiated by this program, will organizemore Communist League members to participate in programs like this, and better protect the Yangtze River and fight against environmental pollution, thus contributing in their own way to the municipal responsibilities of “big lake and four waters protected all together” program of Wuhan City.
