On April 26th, in order to further enhance the communication between international students and Chinese students in Jianghan University (JHUN), accelerate the training of international talents, and build an internationally multicultural campus, JHUN held the 3rd International Cultural Festival and the Voice Around the Globe “Bank of China” Cup Chinese Song Contest for International Students during the Campus Culture Festival. The event was hosted by the Chinese Communist Youth League Committee in JHUN, hosted by the School of International Education and the Color Wind International Students Association, and sponsored by the Bank of China and Wuhan Smart Thinking Art Design Co., Ltd., The event also invited teachers and students from China Three Gorges University, Hubei Polytechnic University, Hubei University of Nationalities, Hubei University of Medicine, Yangtze University, and Wuhan University of Science and Technology come to participate.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Kai, Deputy Dean of the School of International Education. Vice President Li Weidong delivered an important speech by pointing out that this international cultural festival has attracted teachers and students from more than 20 countries in six universities with the province. They used their voices, dances, foods and other forms to showcase their unique cultures, and created opportunities and provided platforms for spiritual cohesion, wisdom pooling and quality enhancement for Chinese and foreign teachers and students. President Li hoped that through this event, JHUN, which is united, harmonious, civilized and international, will enjoy a more diversified atmosphere.
In the Chinese Song Contest for International Students, the international students showed us very exciting performance. A series of Chinese songs, such as “Chrysanthemums Terrace”, “When Will the Moon be Clear and Bright”, “The Best Ending”, “We’re Different”, “I Have a Taoist Nun Friend”, “Too Much”, “Friends”, “Confession Balloon”, “Happened to Meet You”, “Hello Tomorrow” and so on, were sonorous and resounding. In the end, Zimbabwean student Tadiwa Chiedza Chirima from Yangtze University won the first prize for his wonderful performance of singing “To Travel Far across the Sea”.
There were 40 stalls in this international cultural festival, including 8 booths that are charged by Chinese students, representing UK, France, Germany, Japan, Brazil, USA, Italy, etc. and 12 boothscharged by international students, representing Pakistan, India, Zambia, Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, South Sudan, Cameroon, Uganda and Botswana. In addition, three Chinese cultural exhibition booths, such as Yunli Physical Society, Handmade Society and Jiqian Vinyl Record, were set up, while game areas, food zones, prize distribution place, and hip-hop, rap, and T-shows were also arranged.
This international cultural festival showed the highlights of Chinese and foreign teachers and students according to the cultural characteristics of their countries, such as humanistic culture, national characteristics, lifestyles, music and dance and so on, reflecting JHUN’s open and shared philosophy and constant development and improvement of multicultural campus with an international atmosphere.
