A Letter to International Students Staying on Campus
Dear international students staying on campus,
I. Current Situation
According to the laws in China, the student apartments in the south area of Jianghan University have been expropriated currently as the isolation observation site for novel coronavirus pneumonia. In order to fully ensure the safety of the students, effective isolation strategies have been taken by Jianghan University for the international student apartments from the expropriated student apartments in the south area. At present, there are apartments for Chinese students, young teaching and administrative staff and foreign teachers, Chinese residential communities and administrative office areas of school near the international student apartments, where many teachers, students, administrators and ordinary residents live and work normally.
The international student apartments are the best ones in terms of accommodation, life, security, infrastructures and others. There are many special public facilities, such as kitchens and laundries which are not available in other student apartments of the university, and most of the rooms are four-person or six-person rooms, which are the most suitable for closed management and can guarantee everyone’s health.
II. Measures Taken by SIE
1. SIE implements the closed management on international student apartments and forbids personnel to go out. The university closes this area, and independent passageways have been set for personnel and goods so as to achieve the best effect of safety protection for international students staying on campus.
2. With the concern of university leaders and the support of relevant departments, SIE insists on disinfecting the international student apartments every day, checking students’ temperatures and providing protective materials. A special psychological counseling team is set by SIE to provide psychological counseling for international students staying on campus.
3. SIE periodically provides the basic living supplies for international students staying on campus free of charge and uniformly distributes them. As for the personalized needs of some international students which cannot be met for the time being, we are also trying our best to solve them.
III. Expectation for International Students Staying on Campus
A. Full Understanding and Complete Cooperation
We do hope all the international students staying on campus can fully understand the actual situation of China and your own country. The requisition of apartments is a necessary measure and a legal act to win the epidemic prevention war. At present, there is no better place in our university than the international student apartments. Please fully understand the various measures and decisions made by China and your government and completely cooperate with the implementation of these measures and decisions.
B. Timely Update and Reasonable Reflection
We do hope all the international students staying on campus can know the reality in time and cooperate with the university and SIE to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control. Your opinions and requirements to the university should be put forward to the international student counselors and dormitory teachers in the first place. SIE will respond to those logical, reasonable and feasible suggestions as soon as possible. We will also seriously deal with any adverse consequences of epidemic prevention and control caused by personal behaviors after being verified.
B. Strengthening the Protection and Readjusting the Focus
On the premise of personal protection, every international student staying on campus should not only ensure your physical health, but also pay attention to your mental health. At the same time, everyone should focus on Chinese learning and professional study.
D. Keep Faith and Be Grateful
1. All people over China are caring about and supporting Wuhan. Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, chairman of the PRC and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee, had made instructions: “we will fight this resistance war, the general war and the people's war with full confidence. We must build up our confidence and win it”. Sun Chunlan, the vice premier of the State Council, had led the central steering group to guide and supervise the epidemic prevention and control in Hubei Province. The Central Military Commission also sent more than 4,000 medical staff to support Wuhan in batches. At present, all residential communities in Wuhan are under closed management. All measures are being effectively promoted and implemented. Please believe that the epidemic will soon be effectively controlled and the final victory will be achieved through our joint efforts.
2. SIE has always concerned about international students staying on campus. Since Chinese New Year's Eve, the leaders of SIE have been on duty to solve the practical difficulties of students, and even risked their lives to buy and take medicines for students. The average age of dormitory teachers is over 50, and they are on duty 24 hours a day with two persons at least to help the students at any time. International student counselors are always concerned about every international student who stays on campus, and are on standby 24 hours a day to solve problems. The School Hospital provides protective materials and basic medical services. The Logistics Department keeps purchasing basic living supplies. The Security Office provided basic security for the students.
We do hope you will cooperate forwardly, actively and fully with the prevention and control work of the university and SIE. We also express our thanks to all of you who participate in the “war of epidemic” together. We should learn to be grateful! You know there are many people fighting in the front line. There has never been a smooth time in the world just because someone is carrying us forward!
